She was assisted by state Rep. Laura Hoydick, R-120th District, and Women’s Business Development Council COO Dorothy Bratchell.
The ceremony included tastings, an exhibition of artistic edible designs and fireworks.
Hoydick presented Papadopoulos with an official citation from the Connecticut General Assembly commemorating the grand opening.
"I am so happy to welcome a great new woman-owned business to the town of Stratford," said Hoydick in a statement. "Her unique and exceptional talents as a custom wedding and celebration cake designer assures that hers will be a great success story. I wish her and her family the best on this new endeavor."
A native of Brazil and resident of Norwalk, Papadopoulos has been creating custom cakes for a decade, working for clients throughout Connecticut, Westchester and New York City.
By her estimates, she has made over 300 wedding cakes, along with various birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, bat mitzvah or New Year's cakes.
Papadopoulos used the WBDC for help with her financials and obtained a loan from the Small Business Administration to help purchase Lovely Cakes' 1,900-foot commercial kitchen facility.
That kitchen is available for rental by the hour, or for short and long-term needs.
