Have A 'Blast' With Fairfield County's Fireworks Festivities

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The Fourth of July is just around the corner, and no doubt you're already thinking about the best perch for picnicking and pyrotechnics.

Here in Fairfield County, we start celebrating early. What follows is a sampling of where to go to make your holiday pop. Feel free to add any we've missed on our Facebook page.

Friday, June 24

  • Ridgefield: Head to the Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department’s annual carnival at East Ridge Middle School where, in the main parking lot off East Ridge Road, fireworks start around 9 p.m. The rain date is Saturday, June 25.
Saturday, June 25
  • Bridgeport: The Barnum Skyblast Fireworks show will take place at Seaside Park around 9 p.m. with a the rain date of June 26.
  • Danbury: Candlewood Lake is the place to be for a fireworks show sponsored by the City and Volunteer Fireman.The show is provided by the pyrotechnic masters from "ATLAS" of New Hampshire and starts at 7 p.m. Rain date is Sunday June 26.
Thursday, June 30
  • Westport: The Westport Police Athletic League (PAL) and the Westport Parks and Recreation Department will hold its annual Fireworks Celebration at Compo Beach. Rain date is Friday, July 1.

Friday, July 1

  • Danbury: The annual Danbury Fair Mall fireworks begin with a live show at 6 p.m. featuring a band from Western Connecticut State University, and later, a Top 40 coverband starting at 8 p.m.
  • Shelton: A free concert is slated for 7 p.m. at the Riverwalk before the fireworks start. Fireworks should begin around 9 p.m.
  • Stratford : Fireworks begin at dusk at Short Beach Park with a rain date of July 5.
  • Stamford: Cummings Park is the scene of Stamford's annual fireworks event, which begins at 6 p.m. with entertainment provided by More Than Music DJ Service. Fireworks begin around 9:15 p.m. with a rain date of July 2.

Saturday, July 2

  • Darien: Fireworks begin at Darien High School with a rain date of July 3.Local food vendors and the Darien Community Band will be in attendance.
  • Fairfield: The Grucci Firework show explodes over the skies just after dark, usually around 9:15 p.m. from a barge off of Long Island Sound so the show can be seen easily from either Penfield or Jennings Beaches. Rain dates of July and 4 if necessary.
  • Greenwich: The Fireworks display is set for dusk at Greenwich Point and is sponsored by the Town of Greenwich. Fireworks are also set for Binney Park in Old Greenwich.

Sunday, July 3

  • Norwalk : Fireworks and a concert are scheduled for Calf Pasture Beach beginning at dusk.

Monday, July 4:

  • Ridgefield: The Ridgefield Family Fourth Committee sponsors a fireworks display at Ridgefield High School starting at 6 p.m. The American Legion Post 78 will present the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast at 7 p.m. Rain date is Tuesday, July 5.
  • New Canaan: Picnicking, live music, food and drink are on the agenda for New Canaan's annual Fourth festivities at Waveny Park, starting at 5 p.m. Fireworks begin at 9 p.m.
  • Rowayton: Fireworks will light up the sky offshore from Bayley Beach. The fireworks, sponsored by the RCA, are launched from a barge beginning at 9:15 p.m. Rain date is July 5.
  • Weston: The gates open at 4:30 p.m. at Weston Middle School where an array of family-friendly activities are part of the day's agenda including a mini triathalon for kids and adults, and a swim at Bisceglie-Scribner Park. Calise's Food Market offers a barbecue with live entertainment beginning at 6 p.m. The rain date is July 5.
  • Wilton: Head to Wilton High School football field for an 8:30 a.m.Freedom Run Road Race followed later in the day by a 2:30 p.m. Republicans vs. Democrats Softball Game and later, live music with fireworks at approximately 9:30 p.m.
