The open house will be held on Sunday, Oct. 2 from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. and allow visitors to tour the grounds and discover the benefits of being a member at Mill River.

In 1923, Mill River Country Club was created as a 9 hole course on what had been Stratford farmland. It was eventually expanded to 18 holes in 1925, and from 1937 to 1953, Mill River hosted the Shoreline Open Championship, a major PGA Tour event with some of the biggest names in golf in attendance.

More recently, in 2005, renovations to the golf course and the driving range were made with ongoing maintenance continuing since. The golf course for the last several years has been under the management of Course Superintendent Keith Angilly and PGA Professional John Klug and has received repeated praise for the excellent condition of its greens and fairways.

For those looking to cool off, Mill River's olympic size swimming pool -- the largest pool of any club in the area -- has been an attraction to members since its construction in the 1960s and is the practice pool of the Mill River Swim Team.

Unusual for country clubs in this area, four modern bowling alleys have been maintained on the lower level of the Mill River Clubhouse, which provide enjoyment in a historical setting to members of both adult and youth bowling programs and leagues at the club. Whether relaxing at the pool or competing in husband-wife or junior league golf championships, it’s all about family at Mill River.

“Thanks to the support of the Mill River Board of Governors and the enthusiastic efforts of the membership at Mill River Country Club, 2016 was a very successful year,” said the membership co-chairs. “A significant number of members joined the club and we are looking forward to having another successful membership campaign for 2017.”
