Nancy Sharp knows first hand. Her powerful memoir,  "Both Sides Now: A True Story of Love, Loss, and Bold Living" (Books & Books Press, 2014), was the recipient of eight literary honors including Books For A Better Life and the Colorado Book Award.

Now, the Easton native has written a children's book, "Because the Sky is Everywhere" (Eleven Eleven Press, 2017), inspired by her twins, who were two and a half years old when their father, Brett Zickerman, who was born and raised in Fairfield, passed away. At the time, Sharp was 37.

The book, available in English and as a bilingual text in English-Spanish, is geared to children ages four to 12. It centers on Liam and what happens to him after his father dies. Liam doesn’t fully understand what death means and so he wonders if his dad is hiding.

The youngster searches in all the obvious places until his dreams lead him to the sky where he feels his dad’s presence all around him. Ultimately, Liam learns that just as the sky is everywhere, so, too, is his father’s love.

Since its release, the book has been touted as a resource for educators, professionals, and groups that support children and families who have experienced loss and trauma. "Because the Sky is Everywhere" helps children accept that even though someone close to them dies, the love they feel can be everlasting.

As a keynote speaker who travels the country -- Sharp now lives in Denver and is remarried -- she teaches audiences how to spot, build, and sustain the necessary resilience to make positive change and achieve personal and professional growth.

Sharp will be signing -- and selling --  books at the Fairfield University Bookstore on Thursday, Aug. 3 from noon to 3 p.m. On that day, a percentage of proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to the Cove Center for Grieving Children which serves children and families through the state.
