St. Vincent's In Stratford Offers Variety Of Health Programs

STRATFORD, Conn. -- St. Vincent's Medical Center will offer free health and wellness education programs over the next few months at the St. Vincent's Stratford Health and Wellness Center Francis  R. Scifo, MD Community Education Room, 3272 Main St., Stratford.

These are the scheduled programs:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 5, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. - "Respiratory Home Care Products and Services for COPD Patients" presented by Patricia DeMaida, certified respiratory therapist, as part of the St. Vincent's Better Breathing Club.

The program is free.

  • Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m. -- "Regaining Control of Your Health and Vitality - A Men's Health Seminar" presented by Dr. Charles Walker.

Walker offers expert care for a broad range of urology subspecialties, including enlarged prostate/BPH, erectile dysfunction, incontinence, reproductive health and cancer survivorship.

With the latest treatments, Walker can help patients turn their lives around after prostate cancer, according to a release from St. Vincent's Medical Center.

  • Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 6:00 pm - "A Solid Discovery - First Foods for Baby." Offering an infant his/her first foods can be an exciting, but also overwhelming, task.

This program helps parents take the stress out of feeding their babies and offers creative suggestions and useful tips to help them feel confident about getting off to the best start, the release said.

The program is free, but registration is requested. To register online, visit stvincents.org/events.

  • Nov. 2 and Dec. 7, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. - Better Breathing Club. This program is held on the first Wednesday of each month.

It features a variety of presentations for patients with lung disease, such as COPD, asthma, cystic fibrosis. Topics l include nutrition, pharmacy, pastoral care, physical therapy and respiratory care.

  • Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 6:00 p.m. - "Packed with Love: Healthy and Fun Lunchbox Fillers" - Picky eaters? Food allergies in the classroom? This program can help.

St. Vincent's registered dietician will offer ideas to help make meals family friendly and fun for parents and their children.
