Oh, Cassius! is a Bridgeport based musical group consisting of songwriters John Torres and Scott Packham. Their music blends elements of folk, R&B and pop into a blend of catchy but musically complex and layered arrangements. Breel is a comedian, mental health advocate and author of the book "Boy Meets Depression." He’s the National Spokesperson for the Bell LET’S TALK Campaign and has been a guest speaker at more than 100 college campuses.
The April 28 fundraiser will benefit Bridge House, an organization that empowers adults living with persistent mental illness to improve their lives and realize their potential. Since its inception nearly 30 years ago, Bridge House has served thousands of members and continues to provide a critical safe haven for adults in the Greater Bridgeport Area and Fairfield County who are struggling with mental illness.
“We hope to educate while entertaining and engaging in our community in a way that hasn’t been done before at Bridge House.” said Mary Ellen McGuire, executive director of Bridge House. “This event is targeted to a younger demographic and we hope that they will spread the word about Bridge House to their peers in the community and we can continue to stamp out the stigma that often comes with a mental illness diagnosis.”
The event will begin with a VIP reception from 5 to 6 p.m., which will include a book sale and signing with Breel. General admission will be from 6 to 7 p.m. and will include a short program at 7 p.m. The event will also include brewery tours, a raffle, music, and food by Sweet Relief Catering.
Money raised at the event will support the Bridge House operating budget with proceeds from the raffle going towards the purchase of a new commercial stove and oven for the Clubhouse kitchen. Bridge House serves thousands of meals from its kitchen for its members annually.
