Racers Readying For 11th Annual CancerCare 5K in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — It shouldn’t be hard to spot Stephanie Hall when she steps off in the 11th annual CancerCare Fairfield Walk/Run for Hope this Sunday at Jennings Beach.

The 11th annual CancerCare Fairfield Walk/Run for Hope will take place at Jennings Beach in Fairfield on Oct. 15.

The Bridgeport woman, who sought out CancerCare counseling to help her support a friend with breast cancer, will sport a tutu made by her daughter Quantishay with colors representing friends and loved ones with different types of cancer.

“CancerCare doesn’t just support people who have cancer and are struggling,” Hall said. “They also support families, children caregivers, loved ones — whoever asks for help.”

Hundreds are expected to take part in the annual 5K that raises critical funds to support Norwalk-based CancerCare’s free, professional services.

Walkers and runners of all levels and ages are welcome to participate on the scenic and family-friendly flat course.

Starting this fall, CancerCare’s Greenwich Walk/Run for Hope, which formerly took place at Tod’s Point, will combine forces with the Fairfield Walk/Run for Hope.

“We look forward to an even larger event,” said Erica Lebensberg, CancerCare’s director of special events.

The race kicks off at 9:10 a.m., following a children’s fun run at 9 a.m.

Registration and check-in begin at 7:45 a.m. Click here to pre-register.

Awards will be presented to the top male and female participants in the overall race as well as age-based categories.

For the second consecutive year, Little Pub in Fairfield will host an after-race party for participants. Several food trucks, including Fire & Rice and Southern Wings & Things will be at the race location and will donate a portion of their proceeds to CancerCare.
