Blosveren worked at the library for 33 years, the last nine as its director.

Sheri Szymanski, assistant director since 2007, was appointed the new director this week.

Harkins cited Blosveren's accomplishments in creating the library's first teen department, one that has become a model for the country. He also listed her numerous awards and citations.

”Barbara has left a lasting legacy that will shape our community for years to come,” he said.

As assistant director, Szymanski was responsible for human resource management, library budget planning, facilities management, marketing, branding, development and community outreach.

She was also the head of Access Services for the Westport Public Library.

She will be officially welcomed on March 6 at a 1:30 p.m. reception.
