STRATFORD, Conn. — A Stratford woman showed she knows a little something about hammering at the 2nd annual She Nailed It competition, a benefit for Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County.

Amy Schneider and her teammates on Team Googly Eyes — Norwalk residents Gilza Smith and Suzanne Fandel and Cat Edwards of Old Saybrook — bested 19 other teams to win the ladies-only nail-hammering contest that raised about $30,000 for Habitat’s Women Build program.

The quartet, who are active Women Build volunteers, took home the coveted “Bedazzled Hammers” as champs.

The benefit will help fund this year’s Women Build home, the program’s 13th sponsored home in Fairfield County.

UBS fielded three teams in the competition — UBS Hammering for Homes, Power On UBS and UBS Ultimate Nailers. They brought along a number of spectators for the start of the company’s season of service, which includes volunteering to build affordable housing and other ventures.

Since 1985, Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County has built more than 200 homes in the region.
