An off-duty Connecticut State Trooper responded to a call for help Tuesday night and ended up helping to deliver a baby in a commuter parking lot off Route 2 in Lebanon.

At 7:27 p.m. Tuesday, Connecticut State Police Troop K was notified by Onstar that a woman was actively in labor on the side of Route. 2 eastbound near Exit 22 in Lebanon, state police said. Moments later, Onstar updated the location to the commuter parking lot at the exit.

Troop K dispatched several on-duty troopers to the area and called for medical services to respond, state police said.

An off-duty trooper was in the area driving his assigned cruiser. He acknowledged the dispatch report and found the woman, who was in active labor, state police said. He immediately rendered advanced first aid care to the woman.

The off-duty trooper remained with the woman until on-duty troopers and an ambulance arrived at the scene. The woman was then transported to Backus Hospital in Norwich.

State police released no further information on the woman or the baby.
