STRATFORD, Conn. -- After six years and $270 million, I-95's Moses Wheeler Bridge over the Housatonic River in Stratford is now open to full capacity, according to the Connecticut Post .

The bridge's new traffic alignment allows for three, full-width (12-foot) lanes in each direction, up from 10 feet during construction, and there is also an eight-foot right shoulder and 4-foot left shoulder. An additional lane, planned for the summer of 2016, will provide wider shoulders, said the Connecticut Post.

But according to Department of Transportation officials, there is still more work to be done including repaving the bridge, removing the existing bridge pier, and construction of a new parking lot and other items that will take place next year, reported the Connecticut Post.

At almost 3,200 feet, the Moses Wheeler Bridge is one of the longest in the state with a traffic flow of more than 135,000 vehicles per day, added the Connecticut Post.
