Edward Fulton, 34, was sentenced to 36 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for illegally possessing a firearm. He has been detained since March 12, 2016 and on March 13, 2017 he pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon.

According to court documents, on March 12, 2016, a New Haven Police detective working an extra duty assignment at a nightclub on Hamilton Street saw Fulton outside the club pointing a handgun at a group of people. The detective drew his revolver and ordered Fulton to drop the weapon, but Fulton put it in his sweatshirt and kept walking, according to Daly. The detective ordered Fulton to stop, and he eventually complied and the handgun was seized.

The gun was a Cobra nine millimeter derringer that was cocked and loaded with two rounds of ammunition, Daly said. It had been reported stolen in New Haven in 2015.

Fulton has a lengthy criminal history that includes multiple felony convictions for robbery and firearm offenses.
