Stratford Stage Has More Time To Secure Grant Money For Theater

STRATFORD, Conn. -- A looming deadline of April 8 for the Stratford Stage Group, LLC to secure a $125,000 grant to use in renovating the Shakespeare Theatre has been expanded thanks to help from the State Historic Preservation Office, according to the Stratford Star.

The Stratford Stage Group has been given an extension for grant money in order to secure a contract with the town to renovate The American Festival Shakespeare Theatre.

Preservation Office officials told the Stratford Star the office will work with the Town Council before deciding if the state grant will be awarded to the group, said the Stratford Star.

The grant is contingent on the group receiving site control of the theater from the council, according to the Stratford Star. The council is set to discuss the issue at its April 11 meeting, reported the Stratford Star. The group was chosen last year to negotiate a contract to renovate the theater, added the Stratford Star.
