John Jankura, 91, Stratford Resident

STRATFORD, Conn. – John Jankura, of Stratford, husband of 59 years to the late Lydia Hudan Jankura, died Monday, April 11. He was 91.

Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late George and Anna Kotrady Jankura. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a longtime member of the Elks Club.

He is survived by his three nieces, Joan and her husband, Robert A. Jose, of Trumbull, Carol and her husband, Edward Czernota, of Bridgeport, and Kathleen Gelozin of Trumbull; great-nephew, Robert J. Jose; great-niece, Lauren Czernota; sister, Catherine Phoenix; brother-in-law, Stanley Hudan; sister-in-law, Rose Jankura; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Nicholas, Michael and George Jankura.

Calling hours will take place from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St., Bridgeport. Friends may attend the Rite of Burial at 11 a.m. Thursday in Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Church, Bridgeport, with Father Steven Belonick officiating, followed by interment in St. John’s Cemetery, Stratford.
