STRATFORD, Conn. -- The Town of Stratford is seeking qualified applicants for the position of firefighter.
Candidates must take and pass a written exam, oral examination, medical exam, drug screen, background investigation and psychological evaluation. The position pays a range of $57,932.29 - $71,554.47.
The minimum qualifications for the position are as follows:
- High School Diploma or State Equivalency Certificate (GED)
- 18 years old
- Valid motor vehicle license
- U.S. Citizen
- Possess a valid (not older than one year) CPAT card at the time of conditional offer.
- Town will accept accredited out of state CPAT certifications.
- Possess a Certified EMT at the time of conditional offer
Points are awarded toward the exam for veterans and local residents of the town. Documentation must be provided for both with the application and will be validated by the town.
Applicants who do not have a valid CPAT card at the time of a conditional offer of employment will be bypassed but kept on the eligibility list. Eligibility lists are typically valid for two years. Information on CPAT can be found by clicking here.

Applications for employment will be accepted until midnight on June 17. A non-refundable fee of $70 for residents and $100 for non-residents will be payable online by debit or credit card. Financial hardship consideration will be given on a case-by-case basis.
The written test is scheduled for July 9 in the Stratford High School cafeteria, 45 North Parade St., Stratford. The Town of Stratford reserves the right to limit the number of candidates invited to each selection process after the written test.
