Boat Engulfed By Flames During Test Run On Housatonic River

STRATFORD, Conn. — A 29-foot Formula boat was destroyed by fire when one of its engines exploded Tuesday while the vessel was out for a test run on the Housatonic River, multiple media reports said.

Crews from Stratford Fire Marine 233 extinguished the blaze with assistance from the Sikorsky Aircraft Fire Department, according to the Stratford Fire Department. 

The manager of the Beacon Point Marina in Shelton raced to the scene and got the mechanic off the boat, which was fully engulfed in flames in the river near Sikorsky, NBC Connecticut said.

No injuries were reported, but the boat was a total loss, NBC said.
