Bridgeport Man Pleads Guilty To Supplying Heroin In Fatal Monroe Overdose

Careem Bentley, also known as "C-Lows," 34, of Bridgeport, pleaded guilty Monday in New Haven federal court to one count of distribution of heroin, according to Deirdre M. Daly, U.S. Attorney for Connecticut.

According to court documents, on Nov. 23, 2016, Monroe Police and emergency medical personnel responded to a home in Monroe on a report of a suspected drug overdose. When they arrived, they found an unresponsive 37-year-old man lying on the floor. He was pronounced dead.

Investigators seized the man's cellphone, multiple folds of heroin, and other items, and determined that the man had bought heroin from Bentley the day before, according to Daly. Bentley was arrested on April 26 and has been detained ever since.

Bentley is scheduled to be sentenced in Hartford on Nov. 3, and faces a maximum of 20 years in prison. His arrest is part of a statewide initiative targeting dealers who distribute heroin, Fentanyl or opioids that cause death or serious injury to others.
