The raid on two apartments in the three-family house was the conclusion of an on-going investigation by Bridgeport police and the Statewide Urban Violence Cooperative Crime Control Task Force, assisted by the Statewide Narcotics Unit.

Carlos Fontanez, 25, who lived in the second-floor apartment, was charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of a controlled substance, two-counts of possession of a sawed-off shotgun, possession of a handgun with mutilated serial numbers and operating a drug factory, police said.

He was held on $250,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court Friday.

Around 3:15 p.m., police, who had set up surveillance on the dwelling, detained Fontanez as he was leaving the building, which they then entered.

Another suspect was found working on a car behind the residence. Officers accompanied him to get an ID in his basement apartment, where they found narcotics in plain view, police said.

Armed with search warrants for the basement and second-floor apartments and a 2004 Honda Accord on the property, officers seized from the apartments about a half-pound of cocaine and crack, 1.75 pounds of marijuana, six ounces of marijuana wax, 44 grams of edible marijuana and 16 ounces of the opioid hydrocodone, police said.

Also seized were narcotics packaging, scales, grinders, a kilo press, $14,839 in cash, five handguns — two with laser sights — and two sawed-off shotguns, police said.

Police also seized a 2009 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle with an engine from another 2009 motorcycle that had been stolen Sept. 5 in Derby, police said.
