On Oct. 2, police responded to the area of Route 58 and Burr Street in Easton after receiving several reports of a vehicle rolled over on its side, police said. Officers spoke with the driver, 28-year-old Viktoriya Barabanova of Fairfield, who was slurring her words, had glassy eyes, gave off the strong odor of alcohol and was unsteady on her feet, according to police.
Barabanova told officers that she was coming from a benefit at the Bear and Grill in Fairfield and was trying to get home, police said. She also said that she was the only person in the car, according to police.
Police said that while Barabanova was being checked out by EMS, she seemed more confused and was having trouble completing sentences, and she was taken to the hospital. Shortly afterwards, police discovered that she was not alone in her car, and that he boyfriend had been with her. Police said that he went into the woods with his dog and Barabanova's purse, because she told him to, according to police. He refused medical treatment and was picked up by his uncle, police said.
A warrant was issued for Barabanova's arrest and she turned herself in on Tuesday, Nov. 21. She was charged with driving while intoxicated and possession of drug paraphernalia, and released on a promise to appear in court on Dec. 5.
