A motorist reported the white 2001 Chevy Silverado weaving over the double yellow line near the intersection of Cross and Sturges highways and then hitting the stone wall around 4:30 p.m., police said.

An officer caught up to the pickup driven by Ernest Barr, 57, of Taft Avenue, on Redding Road.

Barr failed field sobriety tests, but did not test positive for alcohol in a breathalyzer test at police headquarters, police said. A urine sample is at the lab for testing.

Barr told officers he was using methadone, police said.

He was charged with evading responsibility, illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive in the proper lane, police said.

He was released on $100 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 24.
