Officers from the Westport Police Department were dispatched to a stretch of Post Road at approximately 9 a.m. on Oct. 24 last year, where there were reports of a fight in the roadway between two men near the Volvo dealership.

Police said the two men fighting had been involved in an incident in Derby, which preceded the incident in Westport. Following the initial incident, it is alleged that Fernando Morales chased his victim, Rafael Valle in their cars from Derby to Post Road, where Morales’ vehicle struck the other.

Following the crash, police said that Valle attempted to flee on foot, but he was caught by Morales in the street. During the fight, a third man - later identified as Jose Alvarado, 41 - pulled up to the scene in a separate vehicle, got out and kicked Valle in the head while he was down in the roadway.

According to police, Detectives later learned the unknown male was not a helpful bystander as claimed, but actually knew Morales. Alvarado has since been identified by investigators, and an arrest warrant was issued. On Feb. 2, Connecticut State Police troopers contacted the Westport Police Department, advising that Alvarado had been detained.

Alvarado was transported to the Westport Police Department, where he was charged with second-degree assault. Following arraignment, Alvarado was released on $25,000 bond. He is due to appear in Norwalk Court on Feb. 13 to answer the charge.
