DARIEN, Conn. — A Bridgeport woman stopped in Darien because her car had no license plate was arrested after a police K9 sniffed out drugs and pot, police said.

A Darien officer on patrol stopped Nataly M. Garcia, 22, of 636 Central Ave., at 8:25 a.m. Oct. 4 at Noroton Avenue and West Avenue, police said.

Her brown 2005 Nissan Altima, which was traveling west on West Avenue, had no front license plate, police said.

The officer detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle, police said. K9 officer “Kenny” was brought to the scene and indicated there were narcotics in the vehicle, police said.

A search of the vehicle turned up a plastic container with blue/green pills, as well as a bag of suspected marijuana, police said.

When asked, Garcia identified the pills as Ecstasy, police said. Several pieces of drug paraphernalia, which appeared to be smoking devices, were also found in the vehicle, police said.

Officers also determined that Garcia’s vehicle was not insured and her license was suspended, police said.

The suspected marijuana tested positive, as did the Ecstasy pill.

Garcia was arrested and transported to the Darien Police Headquarters. She was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of more than a half-ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to insure a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and no front license plate.

She was held on $500 bond, and taken to court Oct. 5.
