Manhunt Ends With Stratford Man's Arrest In Fairfield Home Invasion

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Stratford man was arrested on home invasion and other charges Wednesday after an early morning K-9 manhunt in the Brooklawn area of town, police said.

Police arrested Markus Denzel Smith, 22, after finding him running through yards on Marne Avenue in the 4:30 a.m. incident.

Officers were called to the area on a report of a homeowner hearing suspicious noises and finding a door ajar at his Brooklawn Terrace home.

Once on scene, officers found a backpack containing several items, including a handgun, outside one of the home’s doors.

More patrols responded to the area and set up a perimeter. K-9 Maverick tracked to Marne Avenue and Sedan Terrace where officers saw Smith running through yards and took him into custody, police said.

Smith was charged with home invasion, second-degree burglary, criminal trespass, criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny, criminal possession of a firearm and interfering with an officer.

He was held on $500,000 bond.
