STRATFORD, Conn. — A man on moped who was hit by a car and knocked to the ground was in critical condition in Bridgeport Hospital on Saturday, Stratford police said.

The accident occurred just before 8 p.m. Friday on Canaan Road near Mary Avenue, police said, when a Toyota Camry hit the moped.

A police investigation determined that the moped was traveling south on Mary Avenue and attempted to cross Canaan Road when he was hit by the Camry, which was traveling west on Canaan Road, police said.

The driver was knocked off the moped and suffered serious injuries, police said. He was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment.

The Camry driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, police said.

“The accident is still under investigation and fault has not yet been determined,” Stratford Police spokesman Capt. Frank Eannotti said in a statement.
