Police Identify 27-Year-Old Stratford Woman Killed In Shooting

STRATFORD, Conn. — Stratford police have identified the 27-year-old woman who was shot to death during an argument early Sunday.

Raenetta Catchings, of Stratford, was pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital as a result of her injuries in the shooting on North Avenue, Stratford police Capt. Frank Eannotti said Monday.

A 24-year-old man was critically injured in the shooting, he said. No further information was given on that victim's injuries or condition. 

The shooting occurred shortly after midnight on the street in front of 1584 North Ave. after a verbal argument, police said.

The incident was under investigation, and officers were trying to identify the shooter or shooters, police said.

"The shooting is an isolated incident, and there is no further danger at the scene," police said in a statement. 

North Avenue was closed for several hours as a result of the shooting and subsequent investigation.

The shooting occurred after a 50th birthday party at the home, the Connecticut Post said.

On Sunday afternoon, police officers, including an officer with a K-9 unit, searched a field at the nearby Nichols School, the Post said.

This was the second homicide of the year in Stratford.

Andre Pettway, 27, of Bridgeport, was shoot to death May 27 at 54 Garibaldi Ave.. Two people —  Cris Concepcion, 24, of Bridgeport and Brandyn Ford, 24, of Stratford — have been charged with murder in that case.
