At 5 p.m., Milford Police Officer Preto saw a man leaning into a car's driver side window in the parking lot of Howard Johnson’s Motel at 1052 Boston Post Road. Officer Preto then heard a woman yell for help and wave her arms from inside the car, police said.

The man, identified as Eric Lewis, 35, of New Haven, was ordered to back away from the vehicle and place his hands behind his back, police said.

Lewis refused and began fighting with the officers at the scene, police said. Officers used a Taser on Lewis, but it had little effect because Lewis was on PCP, police said.

Eventually, several officers were able to place Lewis under arrest.

Officers determined that the woman was waiting for a different person in the parking lot when Lewis approached her vehicle and attempted to open the door and pull her out, police said.

He was later found to be in possession of marijuana laced with PCP, police said.

Lewis is charged with the following with second-degree breach of peace, assault on police officer, interfering/ resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, possession of hallucinogen and criminal attempt at carjacking.

He was held on $10,000 bond to appear in Milford Court on Wednesday.
