STRATFORD, Conn. — A man charged with negligent homicide was traveling over twice the speed limit on a residential street when he hit and killed a man riding a moped back in February, Stratford police said.
On Monday, Idis Wilson, 27, was arrested on a warrant and charged with misconduct with a motor vehicle, second-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving and negligent homicide.
The crash occurred Feb. 17 on Canaan Road near Mary Avenue in Stratford, police said. Wilson, driving a 2015 Toyota Camry, struck a moped driven by Richard Rodriguez of Bridgeport.
Rodriguez died of his injuries on Feb. 21 at Bridgeport Hospital.
The moped was traveling south on Mary Avenue and attempted to cross Canaan Road when it was hit by the Camry, which was traveling west on Canaan Road, police said.
Rodriguez was thrown off the moped about 85 feet and suffered serious injuries, police said.
The investigation determined that Wilson had been traveling on Canaan Road at 59 mph before striking Rodriguez, police said. The posted speed limit is 25 mph.
Wilson was held on $15,000 court-set bond. He is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on May 9.
