An officer stopped Michael Gonzales, 32, of Main Street, around 8:30 a.m. because he failed to stop for a red light at Post Road East and Parker Harding Plaza, police said.

The officer thought Gonzales was “extremely nervous and shaky,” so he asked for permission to check the vehicle, police said. He found a small plastic baggie containing brown powder that later tested positive for heroin on the front seat, police said.

Gonzales was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics. He also received an infraction for failure to obey a traffic light and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license, police said.

He received a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 10.
