Police: Woman Dead, Man Critically Injured In Shooting In Stratford

UPDATED: STRATFORD, Conn. — A 27-year-old woman was killed and a 24-year-old man was critically injured in a shooting early Sunday on North Avenue, Stratford police said.

The shooting occurred shortly after midnight on the street in front of 1584 North Ave. after a verbal argument, police said in a statement Sunday afternoon. 

The 27-year-old female victim was pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital, police said. A 24-year-old male victim was listed as critical as the result of a gunshot wound as well, police said. 

The incident was under investigation Sunday afternoon, and officers were trying to identify the shooter or shooters, police said.

"The shooting is an isolated incident, and there is no further danger at the scene," police said in a statement. 

North Avenue was closed for several hours as a result of the shooting and subsequent investigation.

No further information was released.
