Redding officials called it a "very serious car accident."  A Jeep Liberty lost control, struck a tree and caught fire, according to News12 Connecticut.

One passenger was ejected during the crash, the Redding Pilot said. A group of passersby pulled the others out of the Jeep before first responders arrived, the Pilot said.

Redding First Selectman Julia Pemberton said the town's selectmen were notified of a "very serious car accident" on the Georgetown side of Redding and received updates from Fuchs.

Pemberton urged residents to "refrain from speculation on social media."

"In our closely knit communities many of you will have personal knowledge of those involved," she said. "Let's focus our energy on thoughts and prayers for the individuals involved in the accident and their families. Keep those prayers going!”

Pemberton also thanked the first responders "who worked quickly to provide care to those in need."

First responders included members of the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department, Redding Fire & EMS Company #1, West Redding Volunteer Fire Department and the Redding Police Department.
