Timothy Anderson was found not guilty by insanity in March by a three-judge panel in the brutal death of his 76-year-old mother, Maryann Anderson.

Anderson, who had mental illnesses for over a dozen years, will be sent to the Whiting Forensic Unit at Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown, the Advocate said.

Anderson attacked his elderly mother in March 2015 after she confronted him about not taking his medication, according to police. She shouted for his older brother John to call the police, and the two brothers fought for a few minutes before Timothy Anderson fled the house, police said. He was arrested a short time later.

Maryann Anderson suffered severe brain injuries, police said. She was placed in a coma but later died from her injuries, according to police. Anderson had been charged with beating her and was later charged with murder. The charge was later changed to first-degree manslaughter.

Timothy Anderson had paranoia, disorientation, responses to internal stimuli and aggression and was in a psychotic state when he killed his mother, the Advocate said.
