NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Connecticut State Police were on the scene and leading the investigation into an officer-involved shooting in New Haven on Tuesday.

The incident began at 10:09 a.m. Aug. 16, when officers from the New Haven Police Department along with members of the New Haven Fire Department were dispatched to 480 Ferry St. on a report of an active disturbance.

A man identified as Roberto Orsini-Rodriguez, 38, was found in the first floor lobby of the building, police said.

He charged at a New Haven officer with a knife, at which time the officer fired several shots from his service weapon, police said.

Orsini-Rodriguez and the unidentified officer were transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital, police said.

New Haven State’s Attorney Patrick Griffin requested that State Police detectives from Central District Major Crime Squad respond to the scene and take over the investigation into the incident.

The identity of the New Haven Police Officer was not released.

State Police did not give any details on the condition of the officer or the man who was shot.
