Stratford Bartender Shot By Robber Recovering As Police Investigate

STRATFORD, Conn. — A bartender who was shot in a Stratford bar was in stable condition Wednesday morning as the investigation continued into the armed robbery, police said.

The shooting occurred in BAR, which is located on Main Street in Stratford Center, shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday, police Capt. Frank Eannotti said in a statement.

An unknown male entered the bar, approached the bartender and demanded money, Eannotti said.

The bartender handed over cash and was then shot once in the abdomen by the robber, he said.

The suspect fled the scene on foot, and officers searched the area without success, Eannotti said. 

No description was available of the suspect.

The bartender was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was underwent surgery, Eannotti said.

The area near BAR in Stratford Center was closed down late Tuesday due to the police activity in the busy area. BAR is located at 2399 Main St., near I-95 and the train station.
