STRATFORD, Conn. — A Stratford man was in custody Thursday after he was arrested and charged in a robbery at a rest area on the Merritt Parkway in Orange several weeks ago, according to Connecticut State Police.

James Walsh, 34, of 47 White St., Stratford, was charged with third-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny, state police said.

At about 3:15 a.m. Nov. 24, Connecticut state troopers from Troop I-Bethany responded to the rest area on the northbound side of the Merritt Parkway in Orange for a robbery reported at the Alltown gas station/convenience store, according to state police.

When troopers arrived, Alltown gas station employees said that a white man had entered the store and demanded the money from the cash register, state police said.

The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash before leaving and fleeing in a vehicle, state police said.

He implied that he had a weapon but did not display one, and nobody was injured in the incident, according to state police.

Detectives from the Central District Major Crime Squad responded to the scene and took control of the investigation. They were able to obtain surveillance footage of the suspect, police said.

After several weeks, troopers were able to positively identify Walsh, who was taken into custody early Thursday, police said.

Bond was set at $250,000. A court date has been set for Dec. 8 at Derby Superior Court, police said.
