Milford Police said that on Saturday a car that had been stolen out of West Haven was seen traveling west on Boston Post Road near Orange Avenue. An officer tried to stop the car, which was driven by 59-year-old William Zukoff, but it sped off, according to police. It got onto the Merritt going southbound at a high rate of speed, and officers broke off the pursuit due to safety concerns, police said.

Surrounding towns were notified, and Zukoff was arrested by Stratford Police after crashing the car in Stratford, police said. An investigation also revealed that he had backed the stolen car into another car in Milford prior to the chase, police said.

Zukoff was charged with engaging police in pursuit, unsafe backing, reckless driving, evading responsibility and misuse of plates.
