Stratford Police Arrest Suicidal Man After Four-Hour Standoff

STRATFORD, Conn. — An incident ended peacefully after a suicidal man had barricaded himself in his home on Hurd Avenue early Monday morning and threatened to kill himself, Stratford police said.

The incident started at about 2 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9. The 37-year-old man threatened to harm himself and barricaded himself in his home at 108 Hurd Ave. when an officer arrived to make a wellness check, spokesman Capt. Frank Eannotti said in a statement.

During the incident, which last about four hours, Daniel Nagy "threatened to shoot himself," Eannotti said. The Stratford Police Special Response Team and Negotiators "responded and were able to resolve the incident" at about 6 a.m., he said. 

Nagy was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, Eannotti said. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital for observation.
