STRATFORD, Conn. -- A 32-year-old Stratford woman was seriously injured when her car went off the road and hit two barrier beams on the Merritt on Sunday, according to state police.

The woman was traveling southbound on Route 15 near exit 53 in Stratford at around 6:30 a.m. Sunday when she lost control of her 2001 Mazda. It went off the road, hit a wooden beam barrier on the left shoulder, then spun and hit a wooden beam barrier on the right shoulder. It then came to a rest facing north on the exit 53 ramp.

The driver was entrapped and needed to be extricated from her car, state police said. She sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash, and was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital by Stratford EMS.

The accident is still under investigation, and anyone who may have witnessed it are asked to contact Trooper Danso at the Troop G barracks in Bridgeport, at (203) 696-2500.
