Two Charged With Christmas Eve Murder In Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Two men have been arrested in connection with a deadly Christmas Eve shooting that left one person dead, Bridgeport Police announced.

Just after midnight on Christmas Eve, 33-year-old Miguel Rivera was shot and killed in front of 323 North Ave. Police said detectives were able to quickly develop information in the case and secure arrest warrants for 34-year-old Xavier Rivera and 29-year-old Moises Contreras.

Contreras was taken into custody on Tuesday, Jan. 24 without incident at his mother's house on Olive Street in Bridgeport, police said. He was charged with murder, first-degree unlawful restraint, criminal possession of a pistol/revolver, carrying a pistol without a permit and unlawful discharge of a firearm. He was held on a $750,000 bond.

Rivera was located at a home in Manchester, Conn. on Tuesday, Jan. 31 by the United States Marshal's Violent Fugitive Task Force, staffed in part by three Bridgeport Police detectives, according to police. Hew as taken into custody after attempting to flee, police said. He was charged with murder, first-degree unlawful restraint, criminal possession of a pistol/revolver, carrying a pistol without a permit and unlawful discharge of a firearm. His bond was set at $750,000.

Police said that the Bridgeport Police Department Homicide Unit was assisted by many detectives within the police department, as well as by investigators from the Statewide Gang Unit and ATF.
