After winning 60 percent of the vote, Democrat Joe Gresko will complete the term of his friend and boss, Terry Backer, who died last month at age 61 of brain cancer after serving nearly 12 terms in the House, the Post said.

The final tally was 1,339 for Gresko and 873 for Republican Susan Barksdale, according to the Stratford Star.

Gresko was sworn in on Wednesday in Hartford before the new legislative session began.

He plans to retain his seat on the Town Council until the summer to have a hand in settling the town’s budget and the Stratford High renovations, the Star said.
