STRATFORD, Conn. – The date has been set for the special election to fill the seat in the state House of Representatives left empty by the resignation of Laura Hoydick last week.

The 120th District seat consists of portions of the Town of Stratford. The election will be held Tuesday, Feb 27.

Hoydick resigned from the House seat Jan. 2 after she was elected mayor of Stratford.

Under state law, the governor is required to issue a Writ of Special Election within 10 days of a legislative vacancy. And a special election must be held exactly 46 days after the writ is issued. Gov. Dannel Malloy filed the writs Friday.

Nominations from political parties for the race must be completed by Jan. 22, according to the Stratford Star. The Stratford Democratic Town Committee will meet Thursday, Jan. 18, to choose a candidate, the Star said.

Bill Cabral, a Republican and former Town Council member, is the only officially announced candidate for the seat, according to the Stratford Star.
