GREENWICH, Conn. — Greenwich resident and WWE co-founder Linda McMahon was confirmed as the head of the Small Business Administration by the U.S. Senate on Tuesday morning.

McMahon's nomination was confirmed by a vote of 81-19 as she joins President Donald Trump's Cabinet.

McMahon co-founded the Stamford-based World Wrestling Entertainment in 1980 with her husband, Vince McMahon, and served as CEO. She also founded the organization Women's Leadership LIVE. She was tapped by Trump in December to head the SBA, and on Jan. 31 the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship approved her nomination, sending it to the Senate floor for a full vote.

She ran two unsuccessful campaigns for U.S. Senate as a Republican. In 2010, she lost to U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, and in 2012 to U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy.

Both Blumenthal and Murphy introduced her and supported her in her confirmation hearing last month .

Murphy announced Tuesday that he had voted in support of McMahon's confirmation.

“Congratulations to Linda McMahon on her confirmation as head of the Small Business Administration," Murphy said. "As I’ve said before, while Linda and I haven’t always seen eye-to-eye, I look forward to working with her to help small businesses in Connecticut."

Blumenthal also voted in support of McMahon on Tuesday.

“I am hopeful that under Linda McMahon’s leadership, the SBA will ignite increased support for small businesses, which are the economic backbone and preeminent job creators in Connecticut and nationally,” Blumenthal said. “As a Connecticut businesswoman and entrepreneur, Linda McMahon knows that small businesses are our country’s most vibrant and vital job creators.

"The SBA plays an integral role in supporting small businesses, especially those in minority communities, by providing access to capital and connecting them with knowledgeable and experienced professionals whose expertise and experience can help them thrive.”
