"These students have worked hard to create bills they would like to see become laws, drafted persuasive opening statements, and learned the ins and outs of parliamentary procedure," said a GoFundMe page started to help the students raise needed funds. "Now, they would like the opportunity to represent Kolbe and Bridgeport at the annual State Conference!"

The fundraiser, launched Thursday, had already raised $800 of $2,300 goal in one day.

"I am so proud of the KCHS students who are learning how a democracy should work," said one supporter who made a donation.

The Connecticut YMCA Youth & Government Program is designed to introduce high school students to the organization and function of the Connecticut General Assembly via participation in a mock legislative session.

Delegates may participate as elected officials, representatives or senators, press corps members, or lobbyists.

The program runs from November through March, culminating in the annual State Conference held at the State Capitol in Hartford. The program is privileged to have access to the committee meeting rooms and the House and Senate chambers for an entire weekend.
