The measure was the idea of board chairman James Feehan, who felt it was "unfair" some students illegally attend local schools, the Stratford Star said.
Feehan's plan calls for the checks to be made every three years, reported the Stratford Star.
Mayor John Harkins supported the plan in a statement, noting local residents "pay a significant amount of taxes" to make sure Stratford students are taught well, the Stratford Star reported.
More than 40 families have been notified by the district that they were in violation of the existing policy since 2013, the Stratford Star noted.
