STRATFORD, Conn. -- The Stratford school district on Tuesday filed a Notice of Intent to Apply with the town government in order to submit an application for a grant that could help fund community learning center programs at two local high schools.
The notice, posted to the town website , says the school district will be cooperating with the town to apply for a 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant.
Awarded through the Connecticut State Department of Education, the grant is part of a federal program that provides money for the construction of "community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools," according to the U.S. Department of Education .
According to the district's notice, the grant, if awarded, will fund community educational efforts at Frank Scott Bunnell and Stratford high schools.
According to notice, the school district should be informed of the Department of Education's decision by October.
