Route 8 In Shelton Reopens After Flooding

Update: Route 8 northbound reopened in Shelton just before midnight, state police said. The state Department of Transportation was en-route to perform drain maintenance in the flooded area. 

original story: SHELTON, Conn. — The northbound side of Route 8 was closed just before 11 p.m. Tuesday due to flooding on the highway, Connecticut State Police announced via Twitter. 

Traffic was being diverted off Route 8 at Exit 13, state police said. 

The entire roadway is flooded in the area, state police said. 

It was not clear how long the highway would be closed, although it was expected to be open for the Wednesday morning rush hour. 

Heavy rain fell through the valley late Tuesday, with flooding also reported in parts of Bridgeport and Stratford.
