Cool, Rainy Monday Kicks Off Wet Week In Stratford

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Fairfield County residents can expect periods of rain Monday ahead of a week that's expected to be wet, cloudy and much cooler than last week's unseasonably warm temperatures.

The chance of precipitation is 80 percent Monday, according to the National Weather Service. A warm front will gradually approach from the southwest, followed quickly by a cold frontal passage Monday night. The high will be near 57, well below normal due to cloud cover. There is a possibility of a thunderstorm after 1 p.m.

Rain will continue into the night, mainly before 8 p.m. There will also be areas of fog, and a low around 52.

The early portion of Tuesday is expected to be mainly dry before low pressure approaches from the southwest, bringing with it a 20 percent chance of rain after 2 p.m. Otherwise the day will be partly sunny, with a high near 70. The chances of rain increase by the evening, with a 30 percent chance of rain after 11 p.m. The low Tuesday night will be around 51.

The unsettled conditions will continue throughout the week as a series of low pressure systems move through the region. Wednesday will see cloudy skies with a 40 percent chance of rain. The high will be near 70. There isa  50 percent chance of rain on Wednesday night, when the low will be around 55.

Showers are likely on Thursday, when the high will be near 66 and the chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Thursday night will see a 50 percent chance of showers. Otherwise the night will be cloudy with a low around 56.

On Friday there is a chance of showers before 9 a.m., followed by a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Otherwise, the day will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 70.
