A quick-thinking officer from the Stamford Police Department may have saved a woman’s life who was contemplating jumping off a bridge onto I-95.

Shortly before 5 a.m. on Wednesday morning, the Stamford Police Department was dispatched to the I-95 overpass on East Main Street, where there was a report of a woman who was attempting to jump off the bridge.

Police said that officers arrived and found a 30-year-old woman on a small ledge of the bridge, “contemplating jumping.”

Law enforcement quickly jumped into action, with State Police closing traffic on the northbound lanes of I-95, while Stamford Police Officer Michael Dube was able to talk the woman down and helped her safely back over the railing.

Following her rescue, the woman was taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment.

“The Stamford Police Department has noticed a rise in calls dealing with people in crisis,” police officials said. “Thankfully due to Officer Dube’s efforts this one worked out well. If you know someone who is in need of assistance please attempt to get them professional assistance through an organization such as National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.”
