STRATFORD, Conn. — A 27-year-old man was arrested after he "took it upon himself to find" illegally parked cars in Stratford parking lots and towed them away, police said.
On Friday, Stephen Verity of Ansonia was arrested after Stratford Police Department received complaints that he was illegally towing cars from town, police said.
Investigation determined that between Oct. 1 and Oct. 9, Verity towed at least 10 cars from the parking lots at the Dock Shopping Center and the Sherwood Apartments, police said.
Verity found the "violations" in the parking lots and towed the vehicles without the consent of the property owners as is required by state law, police said.
He is the owner and operator of Steve's Automotive located at 219 Naugatuck Ave. in Milford.
Verity was charged with one count of first-degree larceny, four counts of second-degree larceny, and five counts of third-degree larceny.
He is due in court Nov. 3.
If anyone had a vehicle towed by Verity and has not spoken to police, they are asked to contact Detective John Therina at 203-385- 4128.
