Howard Pellagrino, 55, of Waterbury, was killed in the accident on westbound I-84 in Waterbury, state police said. He was a former resident of Norwalk, according to the Connecticut Post.

Pellagrino was westbound on I-84 when his 2013 Canyon GMC pickup truck collided with a Greenwood Motor Lines truck driven by Kazimierz Plaskawicki, 41, of Stratford, state police said.

The accident happened at about 10:05 a.m. between Exit 20 and Exit 19, on the Mixmaster, where I-84 and Route 8 intersect, state police said.

Pellagrino’s pickup was in the left center lane, and Plaskawicki’s tractor-trailer truck was in the center lane on the westbound side near Exit 19 for southbound Route 8, state police said.

After colliding, the pickup and the tractor-trailer ended up in the far left lane, state police said.

Pellagrino was pronounced dead at the scene, and Plaskawicki was transported to Waterbury Hospital with minor injuries, state police said.

Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed, state police said.

No charges have been filed in the crash, which is still under investigation, state police said.

The westbound side of I-84 was closed in the area for hours, causing traffic jams for miles with traffic diverted onto Waterbury roads.
