Two Males On Moped Opened Fire On Victim, Stratford Police Said

Updated: STRATFORD, Conn. — Two male suspects on a moped who opened fire and shot another male who was standing on a sidewalk in Stratford were arrested Thursday afternoon on a host of charges, police said.

The victim was taken to the hospital after the shooting on Woodend Road near Columbus Avenue, Stratford Police Capt. Frank Eannotti said.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired at 3:18 p.m., he said. 

"Officers came into contact with the shooters on the moped and attempted to stop them," Eannotti said. "They eventually left the moped on Taft Street and fled on foot. Officers gave chase and eventually arrested the two suspects."

The first suspect was charged with conspiracy to commit murder, first-degree reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a minor, breach of peace, first-degree conspiracy to commit assault, simple trespass, interfering with an officer, using a motor vehicle without owner's permission, no license, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and disobeying an officer’s signal.

The second suspect was charged with criminal attempt at murder, carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a minor, first-degree breach of peace, first-degree assault, simple trespass, criminal use of a firearm and interfering with an officer.

The victim was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury to his foot.

The investigation was continuing into the shooting, Eannotti said.
